He was predeceased by: his parents, George David Clay and Irene Hodnett Clay; his son Tommy Clay; his former wife Susan Imler Clay; and his brother Pete Clay.

He is survived by: his wife Nikki Hartwig-Clay; his children, Steve Clay (Kathy) of Wheelersburg, OH and Cathy Monnig (Bob) of Ironton, OH; his siblings, Jim Clay (Regina) of Ironton, OH, George, Irene Hanifin (Mike) of Charlotte, NC, Teresa DiCenzo of Pittsburgh, PA and Amy Richendollar (Nick) of Ironton, OH; his grandchildren, Lainee Spradlin (Dusty), Jonathan Monnig (Austen) and Nick Clay; his great grandchildren, Clay Spradlin, Cameron Spradlin, Carson Spradlin and Callan Monnig; and also Clay, II of Myrtle Beach, SC.
