He was predeceased by: his parents, Christopher Merlin and Dortha Johnson (Peters); his former wife Elzora "Zo" Ann Johnson (Godare); his grandsons, Joshua E. Johnson and Alex M. "Tank" Tetzloff; and his siblings, Wanda Haag and Norbert Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou Baty Johnson of Huron; his children, Ronald Johnson of Coldwater, OH, Victoria Bickley (James) of Sandusky, Lisa Blake of Sandusky, Scott Johnson (Sue) of Sandusky and Rebecca Tezloff (Thomas) of Sandusky; his grandchildren, James Bickley III (Eva), Katie Johnson, Christopher Blake (Angela) and Meghan Tetzloff; his great grandchildren, Brenna Bickley of James Bickley, IV, Annaliesa, Gabriel and Amelia Blake; his sister Phyllis Knauf (James) of Hudson, Ohio; his sister-in-law Susan Johnson of Mooresville, IN; and his pet Molly. He is also survived by 3 stepchildren, 6 step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19 health concerns, there will be no visitation.
