He was predeceased by: his parents, Emanuel "Manny" and Phyllis Amsel (Ward); and his sister Barbara Marrett. He is survived by: his children, Nathan Amsel of Cleveland, Holly Broadway of Columbus and Amanda Ensinger (Dustin) of Columbus; his granddaughter Abigail Ensinger; and his sister Betty Cooley of Columbus. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
