He was predeceased by: his daughter Beth Ann Kitzmiller; his sister Marilyn Thompson; and his granddaughter Brandee Boysel. He is survived by: his children, Connie Thompson (Doug) and Carmen Elmer (John); and his stepsons, Jerry Simpson, Shawn Simpson (Nancy) and Gabe Simpson (Dana). He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
