He was predeceased by: his parents, James Long and Elizabeth Mae Long (Frame); his sons, Michael E. Long and Melvin E. Long, Jr.; and his grandson Eric Selby.
He is survived by: his wife Almeda Faye Long (Browning); his daughters, Mary Fernandez (Richard) and Margie Long-Hampton (David); and his siblings, Howard Long (Samantha), Joyce Murphy, Darlene Ingersoll, Betty Ooten, Virginia Slone, Robert Long, James Long, Jr. and Eloise Slone. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
