He is survived by: his wife Deborah Hughes (Spivey); his children, Mary Vanest (Jeff), Misty Lorenzo (Anthony), Mindy Mason (Chase) and Steven Smith (Kayleigh); his brother Ernest Hughes, Jr.; his grandchildren, Austin Myers, Peyton Vanest, Carter Vanest, Hunter Burdette, Tanner Burdette, Romeo Lorenzo, Marissa Lorenzo, Nicholas Lorenzo, Ryleigh McKee (Bailey Orr), Jenna Smith and Cash Smith; his niece Aubree Hughes; his great grandchild Elliana Orr; his friend Steve Porteus; and his close friends, Brian, Melody Neely, James and Michelle Anderson.
