He was predeceased by: his parents, George W. Ellis and Maude Ellis (Davis); his wife Barbara Jane Luman; his grandson Jeremy Simkow; and his son-in-law Timothy Abner.
He is survived by: his children, Kimberly L. Abner, Gregory D. Ellis (Donna), Karen E. Lucisano (Timothy) and Kathleen A. Simkow; his grandchildren, John D. Ellis II (Shawna), Rachel L. Oliver (Ryan), Jeremy T. Simkow and Kari Jane Ellis; and his great grandchildren, Briana Simkow, Reed Oliver and Rhett Oliver.
