He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Hinkle and Sarah Smith Hinkle; his wife Sharon Ann Bailey Hinkle; his son Mikol Moore; and his brothers, Edward and Albert Hinkle.

He is survived by: his children, John W. Hinkle Jr. (Robin Jeanne) and Stacie Arnold (Nick); and his grandsons, John W. "T. J." Hinkle III and Wyatt Arnold. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
