He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Thompson and Patricia Thompson; his siblings, Willie Thompson, Jr., Odell Thompson, Gwen Booker and Teresa Thompson-Watkins-Freeman; and his former wife Linda Thompson.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda Thompson; his children, Michele Hardgrow, Benny L. Thompson Jr. (Alicia), Jermaine Watkins, Marcus Watkins, Tonia Thompson, Shonia Crawford (Mark) and Romale Thompson (J'Nitra); and his brother Richard Thompson (Cathy). He is also survived by grandchildren (22) and great-grandchildren.
