He was predeceased by: his parents, William H. Hartzell and Isabell Hartzell (Abernathy); and his siblings, Donald Hartzell, Pete Hartzell, Chuck Hartzell, Albert Hartzell, Jim Hartzell and Nancy Lucous.

He is survived by: his wife Iris "Kay" Hartzell (Sears) of Greenville; his children, Dean Highley of Sidney and Billie Joe Dewalt of Florida; his stepchildren, Mike Willey of Winchester, Indiana and Angie Stewart of Winchester, Indiana; and his siblings, John Hartzell (Georgia) of Bradford, Steve Hartzell (Nancy) of Greenville, Mary Addis (Donald) of Greenville and Delores Thobe of Greenville. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, 3 step great grandchildren.

Memorial Contributions be given to either the Union City, Ohio or the Greenville, Ohio Rescue Squads.
