He was predeceased by: his parents, John W. Shell and Ruth Shell (Shinn); his wife Phyllis A. Shell; his son Jack Shell; and his grandson Jonathan Shell.
He is survived by: his children, Randy (Tonja Shell) of Greenville, Terry (Kim Shell) of Greenville and Cindy (Cory Madaj) of Coldwater, Ohio; his grandchildren, Leah, Daniel, Randy, Jessica, Ashlee, Abbie, Cody and Caleb; his siblings, Myron Shell, Charles Shell, Chester Shell, Rosie Thiebeau and Nancy York; and his parents-in-law, Gary Hetzler and Karen Coppock. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
