He was predeceased by: his parents, John Abernathy and Ruth Abernathy; his uncle Frank Abernathy; and his sister Sally Lynch. He is survived by: his wife Crystal; his children, Heather Abernathy, Sarah Vorhies (Mike), John Abernathy (Mary), James Abernathy and Jason Jenkins (Tia Hamilton); his grandchildren, Gideon, Linda, Ruthie, Brayden Vorhies, Thomas and Samuel Abernathy; his sisters, Shirley Steiner, Linda Thomas and Karen Johnson; his sister-in-law Pat Robinson; and also Cambodian.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
