He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin J. Carey of Green Camp and Lucille Mary Carey (Lauer) of Green Camp; his child Russell Jacob Carey; and his brothers, William Robert Carey and Charles H. Carey.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Lou Carey (Kull) of Marion; his children, Deborah Lee Crawford (Jeff) of Dallas, Richard William Carey II (Lynn) of Prospect, Mary Lucile McCrary (LeValle) and Matthew Albert Carey (Susan) of Cincinnati; and his sister Ruth Ann Stoffer (Roger). He is also survived by his family and friends.
