He was predeceased by: his siblings, Fred and LaDonna Schmachtenberger. He is survived by: his siblings, Harold Bates (Juanita) of Minerva and Miriam Barker (Bill) of Delaware, OH; and his siblings-in-law, Eleanor Bates of Lisbon, OH. and John Schmachtenberger of Minerva. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of Medina County 5075 Windfall Rd. Medina, OH. 44256.
