He is survived by: his children, Jason Friel of Gnadenhutten, Thomas Friel of Gnadenhutten and Jill Bickford (Tim) of Gnadenhutten; his grandchildren, Izabella, Alixandra Patterson, Blake and Brynn Bickford; and his siblings, James Friel (Patricia), Michael Friel, Dale Friel (Sylvia), Mary-Ann Bullock, Diana Fitch (Doug) and Trisha Edwards. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
