He was predeceased by: his father-in-law Lavon Leis. He is survived by: his parents, Ron Schmitz and Joan Schmitz (Zeller); his stepmother Miriam; his wife Kathleen Leis; his children, Kelly Schmitz of Columbus and Bradley Schmitz of Glandorf; his siblings, Richard Schmitz (Susan) of Glandorf, Dorothy Skinner (Clark) of Rochester, MI., Jodi Ruen (Brian) of Perrysburg and Sherri Niekamp (Curt) of Dublin; his stepsiblings, Mark Miller (Sharon), Ryan Miller (Roberta), David Miller (Deneika), Andrew Miller (Brittany) and Kelsey Allmandinger (Kraig); his brother-in-law Jim Leis (Jan) of Miller City; and his mother-in-law Bev Leis of Miller City.

In keeping with the social distancing guidelines, a visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p. m. at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, with a scripture service at 1:45 p. m.
