He was predeceased by: his parents, David Thompson and Virginia A. Thompson (Stutler); his wife Betty Lou Thompson (Lantz); and his sister Betty Ettari. He is survived by: his children, Cynthia Tryon (Robert) and Mark Thompson (Amy); his grandchildren, Amy Kehr (Seth), Ally Thompson and Sarah Thompson; and his great grandchildren, Kayla Guilds and Kendall Garrett.
