He was predeceased by: his parents, Willard Frederick Metzler and Daisy Irene Bennett; the mother of his children Mary Helen Metzler; his brothers, Fred Metzler and Richard Metzler; and his children, Charles Metzler, Dennis Metzler and Karen Jo Metzler.

He is survived by: his daughter Kathy Trimble (John); his grandchildren, Shelly Davis (Benji), Stacy Webb, Timothy Webb (Allyson), Mary Sue Shields (James) and Dennis Metzler Jr.; and his close friend Sally Ankney Hill. He is also survived by 6 great grandchild.
