He was predeceased by: his parents, Newell Newkirk and Kathleen Dickens (Underwood); his brother Todd Newkirk; his stepfather Charles Dickens; his parents-in-law, Vernon and Beulah Vest; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Michael.
He is survived by: his friend Leo Howell; his in-laws, Beulah and Vernon Vest; his wife Sandy Newkirk (Vest); his daughter Samantha Newkirk; his grandson Zachary Newkirk; his siblings, Pamela Bryant (Wesley), Sue Philpot (Ronnie) and Mark Newkirk (Anita); and his siblings-in-law, Donna Quillen (Bob), Pam Boratyn (Marty), Vernon Vest, Larry Vest (Martha) and David Vest (Bridget). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Franklin High School Marching Band.
