He was predeceased by: his parents, William Otto and Evelyn Phillips Engel; his son Larry Engel; and his sister Betty Jean Schaffer. He is survived by: his wife Mary E. Drake; his children, Steve Engel (Mary Beth) of Plymouth, IN, Susan Maze of Plymouth, IN, Charles Engel (Kim) of Frankfort and Todd Engel (Debbie) of Frankfort; his daughter-in-law Diana Engel of Frankfort; his grandchildren, Tess, Vicki, Lindsay, Hannah, Katie, Courtney, Cory, Charlee and Kallee; his sister-in-law Sandy Powers of Columbus; and his close friends, Dan and Denise Miller of Frankfort. He is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren.
