He was predeceased by: his parents, Elding E. Lee and Patricia A. Ragland (Hitchens); and his stepfather Franklin Ragland. He is survived by: his children, Carl M. Hitchens II (Tracey) and Alexandria Ewing (Blue) of Frankfort; his grandchildren, Michael Hitchens (Chelsey), Carley Hitchens (Drew), Cayden Hitchens, Ajani Ewing, Swayze Ewing, Blaize Ewing and Aaliyah Ewing; his great grandchildren, Brayden Harsha, Adrianna Hitchens, Tyson Hitchens, Braxton Miller and Tatum Miller; and his brother Wilbur Lee. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
