He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Ray and Georgia Bateson (Cline); his former wife Mabel Larcom; his wife Leah Bickel; his daughters, Linda Carpenter, Carolyn Strawman and Nancy Roberts; and his siblings, Shirley Stentzel, Geneva Niswander, Harry "Pete" Bateson, Jr. and John Bateson of Bloomdale.
He is survived by: his children, Daniel Bateson (Deb) of Green Springs, Sharon Cochey (Paul) of Gibsonburg, Deborah Freeman (Roger) of Cleveland, Kevin Bickel (Chris) of Wayne and James Bickel (Mary) of Tiffin. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
