He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Wendel and Elenora Wendel (Homan); his wife Joan A. Wendel (Borgerding); his son Gary Wendel; his son-in-law Jim Bettinger; his siblings, Novella Lauber (Albert), Millie Wilker (Jerome), Ermin Wendel (Regina), Thelma Schindler (Irvin), Werner Wendel (Pat) and Alvin Wendel; and his in-laws, Gene Borgerding (Ramona), Norma Grieshop (Jerry), Virginia Grimberg (Kenneth), Dick Borgerding, Harold Borgerding (Eugenia), Marie Glass (William), Patricia Sauer (John) and Jim Borgerding.
He is survived by: his children, Connie Kaiser (Chuck) of Fort Recovery, Carol Knapke (Dino) of Fort Recovery, Judy Bettinger, Rob Rindler of Coldwater, Susie Muhlenkamp (Dan) of Coldwater and Becky Kunk (Kevin) of Coldwater; his daughter-in-law Lisa Wendel (Mike Schaekel); his grandchildren, Gena Minch (Derek), Dana Wendel, Nina Faller (Austin), Nick Kaiser (Tina), April Bihn (John), Abby Timmerman (Chad), Jake Knapke (Sam), Shelby Ranly (Kevin), Luke Knapke (Emily), Nate Knapke, Brandon Bettinger (Sara), Jessica Ritzler (Chad), Courtney Klosterman (Austin), Zach Muhlenkamp (Rose), Caleb Muhlenkamp, Alexis Muhlenkamp, Karla Kunk, Owen Kunk and Leah Kunk; his brother Melvin Wendel of Coldwater; his sister-in-law Martha Wendel of Fort Recovery; and his in-laws, Mike and Marilyn Borgerding. He is also survived by his 28 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 3rd 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Monday, November 4th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home (308 S Wayne St, Fort Recovery, OH 45846). A Mass was held on Monday, November 4th 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church (403 Sharpsburg Rd, Fort Recovery, OH 45846). A burial was held on Monday, November 4th 2024 at the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery (512 S Wayne St, Fort Recovery, OH 45846).
