He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Sands and Rachel Sands (Wooten); and his brothers, Larry and Terry Sands. He is survived by: his wife Carol A. Sands (Bunn); his pet Jellybean; his children, Scott McConnell (Brenda), Jeffery (Michele), Jason Sands (Stacy) and Kimberly Sands; his grandchild Jade (Dustin); his great grandchildren, Ariana and Cali Gordon; his grandchildren, Holly Fields (Jacob) and Joey (Aubery); his great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Granger, Addyson and Daisy McConnell; his grandchildren, Josh McConnell, Lexie McConnell, Chris Exkbold and Katey (Sean); his great grandchild Jaxxon Kidder; his grandchildren, Alexis, Ethan Sands, Xavier Sands and Austyn (Samantha); his great grandchild Braxton Sands; his grandchildren, Bryana, Desirea Reasons and Victoria Brookman (Brad Brookman); and his sister-in-law Janice Sands. He is also survived by many friends and family.
