He was predeceased by: his parents, Firman Grindell and Bernice Grindell (Norris); his wife Bea Wineland; his son Michael; his sister Janet Zucker; his sister-in-law Jo Wilson; and his nephews, David Zucker and Mark Seaman.

He is survived by: his children, Linda Tayor (Robert) of Summerville, SC, Jon Grindell (Becki) of Knoxville, TN and Ginny Gore (Dwight) of Summerville, SC.; and his siblings-in-law, Retha Blankenship of Cleveland, TN, Liz Hammond of Seminole, FL and Robert Zucker of Ontario, OH. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
