He was predeceased by: his parents, Adelbert Soukup and Ruby F. Soukup (Lawrence); his wife Shirley Jean Correll; and his children, James R. Coats and Bertha J. Clinger.
He is survived by: his brother John (James); and his sons, John E. Coats (Colleen) of Sevierville, TN and Paul F. Coats (Violetta) of Huber Heights, OH. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
