He was predeceased by: his parents, Ford Sheffel and Ester Sheffel (Pheneger); his son Ford Curtiss Sheffel; and his brother Duane Sheffel. He is survived by: his former wife Louise Rodabaugh; his wife Julia Fortman; his daughters, Vickie Aller (Al Daugherty), Teresa Sheffel (Barry), Paula Sidle (Bryan) and JoAnna Fairbanks (Michael); and his grandchildren, Christin, Kelly, Bubba, Amanda, Kirk, Diana, Kayla, Jarred, Zachary, Grant and Scott. He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
