He was predeceased by: his father Marvin Gillespie; and his son Gregory D. Gillespie. He is survived by: his wife Wanda Slocum; his children, David Gillespie of Findlay and Andrea Shellenbarger of Findlay; his grandson Caleb Shellenbarger of Findlay; and his brother Marvin Gillespie (Bonnie) of Oak Harbor.

Memorials may be given to the Bridge Home Health and Hospice or College First Church of God.
