He is survived by: his children, Heather Shell (Jason Dempsey), Nikki Darnell (Tonya), Erica Darnell and Joshua Cain Darnell (Melissa); his grandchildren, Devin Shell, Zoey Page, Hollie Boyd and Dallas Boyd; and his siblings, Janet Byrd (Leonard) and Bobby Darnell. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
