Wilma Hawkey Obituary
FARMERSVILLE, OHIO - Wilma L. Hawkey, age 79, passed away peacefully in her home on July 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Nov. 26, 1938 in Irvine, Kentucky to the late Ernest and Kate (Hunt) French. Wilma graduated from West Alexandria High School in 1956 and married Keith Hawkey in 1959. They were married at First Brethren Church in West Alexandria with Pastor Harold Garland officiating. Wilma is survived by her husband of 58 years and their children; Penney (Gary) Douglas of Katy, TX, Debbie (Gregg) Cottingim of Eaton, OH, and Joseph Hawkey of Farmersville, OH. She has one surviving sibling, Jerry French of Port Charlotte, FL. Wilma loved and enjoyed her 14 grandchildren who also survive; Emily, Ryan, and Shaw Hawkey and Shawn, Katie, Patrick, Anna, Kelsey, Morgan, Fiona, Garrett, Emma and Abby Douglas and Christopher Cottingim. She was very active at Community Christian Church for many years, heading up children's church, the annual church garage sale, and providing meals to shut ins and those recovering from illness.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and five brothers.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 26, from 6-9 pm at Community Christian Church, 11 Dorsey Akers, West Alexandria, Ohio 45381. The funeral service will be on Friday, July 27 at 11:00 am, with Pastor Doug Bottles officiating. Interment will follow at Preble Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the church or Hospice of Dayton. Donation envelopes will be available at the church.
