He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard R. Nelson (Mother Helen Nelson) and Helen Nelson (Tew); his daughter Jennifer Doherty; and his brothers, Lance, David Nelson and Douglas Nelson.

He is survived by: his wife Sandra (Barnes); his daughter Julie Baxter (Sylvester); his son-in-law James Doherty; and his grandchildren, Caitlyn Baxter, Alexander Baxter, Avlynn Doherty and Asher Doherty.
