He was predeceased by: his parents, Rae Syx and Edna Watson (Adams); his son John W. Syx, Jr.; and his sisters, Betty Lou Syx and Donna M. Parker (Syx).
He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his children, Kathleen Morgan, Christina Syx-Pyburn (Wayne), Dale Syx and Shane Syx; his grandchildren, April Syx, Crystal Reynolds (Korri), Luke Morgan, David Mason (Victoria), Shanna Mason, Jennifer Williams (Mike), Erin Ison (Jason), Joanie Syx and Brianna Syx; and his sister Joyce Tyree. He is also survived by twenty five great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter.
