John M. Campbell Obituary
John M. Campbell, age 82 of Fairborn, passed away Thursday April 4, 2024 at the Hospice of Dayton. He was born September 13, 1941 in Darke County, the son of the late Neal F. and Donna M. (Linder) Campbell.
John served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and followed with a career as an HVAC and electrical technician, first with Haywood Electric, followed with Sears, and then was self employed until retirement. His hobbies included being a HAM radio operator with call sign WZ8A and he specialized in testing, an avid fisherman and going mushroom hunting in Michigan, gardening, and computers, recently building and testing the mini Raspberry Pi machines. He was a member of the Ansonia American Legion Post 353 and was active in Freemasonry, serving as Past Master of Fairborn Lodge #764 F&AM, Past High Priest of Xenia Chapter #36, Past Illustrious Master of Xenia Council #96, Past Eminent Commander of Nathaniel Greene Commandery #81, and Knight York Cross of Honor (KYCH).
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald "Fluke" Campbell; and a sister, Judy Campbell. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara; three brothers, Neal "Gene" (Donna) Campbell, Joe Campbell (Cindy Coatney), Richard "Butch" Campbell; nephew, Rocky (Jane) Campbell; a niece, Robin (Paul) Freisthler; as well as grand and great grand nieces and nephews, other extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday April 12, 2024 at 5:00 PM at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor H. Wesley Barnhill officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until the time of service. A graveside service with military honors rendered by the Ansonia American Legion honor guard will he held on Saturday April 13, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Ansonia Cemetery.
