He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Warren and Francis Ruth Hern (Drake). He is survived by: his pet Damascus; his wife Lynn Hern (Roberts); his children, Kimberley Hern of North Olmsted, OH and Erin Clevenger (Adam) of Enon, OH; his sister Judith Ann Hammond of Hilliard, OH; and his grandchildren, JC, Alyson, Madison and Alexander. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations in his name to Gene's chosen charities: Wounded Warrior Project, Paws Assisting Veterans, and the Alzheimer's Association.
