He was predeceased by: his wife Teresa Ernst (Sexton); and his parents, Arlene Mae (Heitzman) and Albert "Speed" Sailer. He is survived by: his children, Trina Caudill (Mark) of Cincinnati, Mark Ernst (Susan) of Clarksville and Beth Smallwood (Joe) of Loveland; his stepdaughter Nikki Stiles (Derek) of Beavercreek; his grandchildren, Sean Miller, Kristina Lausier (Chris), Lauren Keeler (Michael), Sam Smallwood, Eva Caudill, Elizabeth Smallwood, Britt Caudill and Caroline Caudill; and his great grandchildren, Callen, Cohen Lausier and Grayson Keeler. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
