She was predeceased by: her husband Harold; her parents, Alexander Paterson and Margaret Paterson; and her sister Hazel Paterson. She is survived by: her children, Marilyn Briggs, Robert Van Valkenburg (Jan), Alan Van Valkenburg (Janet), Jane Cornwell and Frederick Van Valkenburg (Tomoko); her grandchildren, Jeff, Becky, Heather, Karen, Kevin, Brian, Laura, Paul, Brett, Derek and Jennifer; and her great grandchildren, Baylee, Taylor, Trevor, Sam, Vivian, Gloria, Lauren, Claire, Harry, Marin and Evan.
Marian was a member and had been a volunteer at First United Methodist Church, Elyria, a member of Air Force Mothers, a RSVP volunteer, secretary to friends of the library and a former Girl Scout leader.
