He was predeceased by: his parents, Bessie Childress and Vande Childress; his wife Flora Grace Childress; his daughter Brenda Johnson; and his siblings, Vande Childress Jr., Donald Childress, Rodney Childress, Larry Childress, Deborah J. Childress-Farris and Virginia Bessierene Martin.
He is survived by: his children, Beverly Taylor (Minister Charles) of Elyria, OH, Gerald D. Childress Jr. (Lucia) of Mansfield, OH and Michael J. Childress (Erica) of Elyria, OH.; and his sisters, Shirley Nard of Huntsville, AL, Camilla Hayworth of Huntsville, AL and Vicky Hardin of Decherd, TN.. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
