He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gaylord Hootman and Wilmetta Hootman (Martin); his wife Joyce K. Humbarger; his children, Steve Hootman (Dawn) of Edgerton, Kathy Bailey (John) of Golden, Christine Hootman (Allan Wright) of Fort Wayne, Jackie O'Dowd (Dan) of Nashville and Christopher Hootman (Lillie) of Kaysville, Utah.; his grandchildren, Ollie Rindos, Colette Schroeder, Andi Casebere, Drake Bailey, Shannon, Bradey Wright, Christopher, Lexie, Jack O'Dowd, Justin, Joshua, Jaclynn, Jacob and Jared Hootman; and his sister Marsha Ray of Fort Wayne. He was also cherished by ten great-grandchildren.
Due to the ongoing pandemic restrictions, the family will receive friends while observing social distancing precautions.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to West Milford Church of Christ, which holds a special place in Vern's heart because his great-grandfather, John Hootman, helped build the church building, are greatly appreciated.
