He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Gillespie and Hester Gillespie (Bragg); his wife Mildred Gillespie; his daughter Brenda Rice; his siblings, Juanita Harper, Rosella Squires, Junior Gillespie and Lyle Gillespie; his siblings-in-law, Ralph Mattern, Ernie Rowand, Dave Fone, Cecil Harper, Jack Pitts and Sue Gillespie; and his son-in-law Lee Rice.
He is survived by: his children, James Gillespie, Jr. (Sharon), Tim Gillespie (Joy) and Carolyn "Susie" Reed (Bill); his daughter-in-law Cindy Rice; his grandchildren, Michelle Beatty (Mark), Jason Gillespie (Shelly Mills), Shannon Hendricks (Brad), Jessica Smith (Broda McCoy), Shannon LaFond (Bryan), B. J. "Will" Reed (Sarah), Melissa Flowers (Dave), Brendan Reed (Jill Marsteller), Michael Reed, Cody Gillespie, Joel Gillespie, Abi Buchheit (Gregg) and Andrew Rice (Sydney Tray); his siblings, Silvester Gillespie, Delores Mattern, Maxine Mellinger (George), Bessie Rowand, Myrtle Fone and Linda Pitts; and his brother-in-law Arol Squires. He is also survived by many great grandchildren; one great great grandson.
