He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Bates and Laura Bates (Archer); his wife Dorthy Bates (Weddell); and his brothers, Robert, William and Earl Bates.
He is survived by: his children, Eileen Corbett, Cheryl Locke (Robert) and Chris Bates. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
