He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Burkhart and Neva Grim Burkhart of Bolivar; and his siblings, Junior, Robert, John Burkhart, Esther Simon and Grace Renner.

He is survived by: his wife Gwen Stilgenbauer; his children, Barry Burkhart (Gina) of New Philadelphia, Brian Burkhart (Penny) of Carrollton, Robin Lewis (Dave) of Oklahoma and Brandon Burkhart (Renee) of New Franklin; his grandchildren, Ty Burkhart (Vinesha) of Texas, Brock Burkhart (Brittany) of Clinton, Jordan Burkhart of New York, Nathan Lewis of North Carolina, Erin Wiechec (Justin) of Oklahoma, Landon, Madison and Ava Burkhart of New Franklin; his great grandchildren, Brayden, Brynnlee Burkhart and Bailey Burkhart; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Avaline, Gavin Frey and Teagan Steiner; and his siblings, Thomas Burkhart (MaryJane) of Navarre and Ruth McCaulley of Dalton.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the First Christian Church (3029 N Wooster Ave, Dover, OH 44622). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 8th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the same location.
