He was predeceased by: his parents, Nicolas "Nick" Amador and Margarita Amador (Jimenez); his son Ruben Amador, Jr.; and his siblings, Teresa Rodriguez, Fela Costoro, Robert Amador and Reynaldo Amador.
He is survived by: his children, Yolanda Villasana (Juan), Lionel Amador (Brenda) and Margarita "Maggie" Amador; his grandchildren, Daniela Stover, Justin Stover and Maria Elena Amador; and his siblings, Nena Hinojosa, Elma Amador, Ramiro Amador, Ramon Amador, Nicolas "Nick" Amador, Jr. and Rene Amador. He is also survived by 3 great grandsons; 1 great granddaughter.
