He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hughes and Louise Hughes (Noble); and his stepmother Freda Hamilton Hughes. He is survived by: his wife Jane Ann Hughes; his daughters, Betsie Walker (Josh) and Katie Mitson (Nathan); his grandsons, Seth Walker and Thatcher Mitson; his stepgranddaughters, Gloriana and Maela Mitson; his stepsisters, Linda Stalnaker (Ed) of Fairmont, WV, Charlotte Thomann (Wayne) of Chapel Hill and Sandy Phillips (Danny) of Roxboro; and his nieces, Kelly Thomas (Ray) and Kim Eastman (Ed).
