He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael A. Hempfling and Lucille Hempfling (Youngpeter); his sister Agnes Wheeler; and his brothers-in-law, Roger Wanamaker and Michael Kahlie.

He is survived by: his brother Tom Hempfling (JoAnn) of Delphos; and his brother-in-law Tom Wheeler. He is also survived by 26 nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Schools.
