He was predeceased by: his parents, Herschel Buettner and Margaret Buettner (Warnecke); his son Todd Anthony Buettner; and his brother Kenny Buettner. He is survived by: his wife JoAnn Schmitt; his children, Dave Buettner (Molly) of Delphos and Nancy Bangert (Jeff) of Carlisle; his grandchildren, Maggie Bangert (Michael Squicciarini), Abby Gentry (Matt) and Kelsey Sagan (John); his great grandchild Mason Todd Gentry; and his sister Mary Wauben (Charles) of Delphos.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the family has requested visitors wear masks and follow social distancing protocols.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the St. John Tuition Assistance Program.
