Julia Lynn (Thomas) Thomas Obituary

Our Lord took back one of his angels on Nov 21st, when Julia Thomas passed away after battling ALS for more than 10yrs. Her body was broken but her heart and mind continued fighting against all odds to stay with her son and grandchildren. Julia will always be in the hearts and minds of everyone she encountered but her journey in this world ended so she can be with her oldest son Thomas Dunn and God.

Julia was given life November 22, 1955 in Wayland, Kentucky. She is survived, loved, adored, and missed by her son Tony Dunn (Delaware Ohio), handsome grandson Oliver Moats (Delaware Ohio) and beautiful granddaughters Alexis Djukic (Medina Ohio) and Echo Dunn (Delaware Ohio). Her husband was Terry Newland (Delaware Ohio).

Julia went to Harding High School in Marion Ohio and attended marketing classes at OSUM. Julie continued to self-educate to the last day of her life. She was simply one of the smartest people one would encounter. Julie worked in sales so she had freedom to attend her children's musicals and sporting events. She was practicing Christianity in her heartfelt actions over picking out few words in the bible, which many others do, to benefit themselves or own agenda. She enjoyed: biking - dancing - snorkeling - music - animals - concerts - sports - the beach - holidays - leaves in the fall - light houses and reading. She was active in politics, meeting two presidents and running food drives for the hungry. She was an advocate for the ALS foundation - LGBT and BLM. She has an enormous heart helping anyone in need.

Julie's greatest passion was being a mother and grandmother. She loved her children more than anything in the world. Her children were her life. She never missed a track meet, musical, or concert. She always answered their calls, invited them in her house, and loved them unconditionally. Julie selflessly provided her children opportunities she never had growing up. With her support both children graduated college and were successful with their respective professions. Tom and Tony were blessed having Julie as their mother. She was always willing to help and love her children even when they faltered.

Julie made friends everywhere with her playful personality, giving heart, and razor sharp wit. She was never afraid to voice her opinion or stand-up for right and wrong. She will be forever missed touching so many lives. Our hearts are broken but she is now free, healthy and active with her oldest son Tom.

Julie felt trapped in broken body battling ALS for more than 10yrs. ALS is horrific debilitating disease that immobilizes people from their most basic functions. Watching her deteriorate was beyond heart wrenching. She lost the ability to: walk - shower - discharge - eat - talk and finally breath. Hospice struggles to provide any real or consistent help for ALS patients. Unfortunately doctors from multiple hospitals could not diagnose her correctly for more than decade. She wanted more people learn about ALS and push Senators (Portman) + (Brown) for access to experimental drug called "NurOwn". It has been proven to work in patients for extended period of time. ALS is presently fatal with no cure - real treatment or adequate help within the heath care system.

Julie still found joy in the simplest things at end her life. Looking at the turning leaves in the fall - seeing bunnies in the park and putting her eyes upon loved ones.

Here are her words:

My wish is to be cremated and my ashes set free somewhere I would love. I do not need a headstone because I will not be there. My spirit will be with Tony, Echo, Oliver and Alexis wherever they may be. I want no funeral because people should have come visit me when I was alive. Pastor Brian Wenig can speak at a gathering of Tony and Echo. I want my family to know I love them all. I love my son and grandchildren so very much. I will always be watching you. I have made peace with God and I believe in Jesus. Tom Dunn will be waiting on me and I will be happy and healthy.
