She was predeceased by: her parents, Drextal Purkey and Maggie Purkey (Bailey); her husband Larry D. Smith; her siblings, William Purkey (Bill) and Dottie Jo Purkey; and her cousin Linda Sue Marcum.

She is survived by: her children, Sharon Taylor (Dan) of Delaware, Sandra Maxfield (Bryan) of Delaware and Larry D. Smith, Jr. of Marengo; her sister Lotus Canterbury of West Virginia; and her grandchildren, Chelsea, Brooke and Megan. She is also survived by three great grandchildren.
