He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Gates and Dorthy M. Gates; and his brother Jackie D. Gates. He is survived by: his siblings, Charlene A Williams of Hoschton, GA, Charles M. Gates (Gloria) of Cleveland, OH and Robert M. Gates (Niover) of Lorain, OH; his aunt Shirley Combs; and his close friend Harbut.
