He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Coats Jr. and Marylee Taylor; his great-grandparents, Clifford Franklin Sr. and Pearl Franklin; his grandparents, Albert, Catherine Coats, Mary Bates Hicks and John Hicks Sr.; his uncle John Hicks Jr.; his son Martenis Taylor; his great-uncles, Clifford Franklin Jr. and Harold Coats; his siblings, Eric D. Coats, Willie Frank Smith, Mary Coats, Shirlene Smith, Tina Coats Hall and Carol D. Smith-Wafer; his great-niece Kaneisha Johnson; his great-nephews, Jaykwan D. Hardy, Elgin Wilson, Darius Hall Jr. and Christian Taylor; and his cousins, Gwen Franklin and Patrice Franklin.
He is survived by: his children, Allen Coats Jr. (Natasha), Lutreasa Coats (Anwan Pounds), Twanesha Taylor and Nitia Taylor; his grandchildren, Naekwon Wilson, Lasias Hicks, Allen, Charlie Coats, Carol Nixon, James Jeffery Jr., Jaylen Jeffery and Janyla Jeffery; his great grandchild Silas Hicks; his siblings, Charles Coats, William Coats, Quinn Wilkes, Shawn Coats, Edward Smith, Catherine "Kitty" Coats, Rosalee Smith and Princess "Tonya" Coats; his aunt Janie May Taylor; and his close friends, Lutricia Horton and Patricia Shrivers. He is also survived by numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6th 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Newcomer Funeral Home (4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 6th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Thursday, March 6th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Dayton National Cemetery (4400 W Third St, Dayton, OH 45428).
