He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Russell Matheny and Jennie Mae Matheny (Fetzer); his siblings, Russell Matheny of Dalton and Harriet Golweiler of Wooster; his wife Rachel Joan Matheny; his children, Richard Matheny (Kendra), Kirsti Matheny and Patrick Matheny (Kathy); his grandchildren, Matthew Matheny (Eva Foussat), Andrew Matheny and Hillary Matheny; and his great grandchild Hugh Matheny.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Buckeye Council BSA or the Navy SEAL Foundation.
